What is The Beyra Directory ?

The Beyra Directory is designed to provide English speakers with the independence to source their own social and business contacts. It is also an avenue for new and established businesses to advertise their services. Everyone listed speaks English.

People of all ages are discovering Central Portugal, with many moving here for a variety of reasons. Some want to live here permanently, some want holiday homes and some are looking for investment projects. Whatever their reasons they soon discover that English is not as widely spoken as it is in other parts of Portugal.

Having arrived in Portugal knowing only a few Portuguese words, I experienced first hand the frustrations of trying to get things done. Everyday tasks in the UK suddenly became time consuming and stressful. I became concerned that I was a burden to the few people I knew as I was constantly relying on them for help.

Being unable to communicate can make people feel isolated and vulnerable, simple phone calls or going shopping can become monumental events rather than a pleasure. Bureaucracy can be a minefield too but where do they go for help?

Perhaps buying a property in Central Portugal is still a dream because you are concerned about the language barrier. Maybe you already own property in Central Portugal and need contacts to assist with its renovation or upkeep. It could simply be that you want to meet others with the same interests and hobbies or find playmates for your children.

The Beyra Directory is designed to ease some of the stress by providing the means to find out where other English speakers are.

Even if you are not new to Central Portugal it is hoped The Beyra Directory will become a useful resource for the future.
